The ability for iron to undergo redox-cycling is harnessed by some enzymes for catalysis

In support of our data, others have shown that insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes are associated with heightened lactate levels. Somewhat surprisingly, we found no correlation between plasma levels of FABP4 and CRP, potentially reflecting that these markers may mirror different parts of the inflammatory arm of atherogenesis.
